Project title – Cooperation project between National Statistics of Georgia (Geostat) and Statistics Sweden.
Beneficiary – National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat)
Implementing agency – Statistics Sweden.
Period covered – 01/05/2011 – 01/05/2014. Prolonged until 1st of May 2015 under terms no-cost extension.
Type of assistance Technical assistance.
Main objectives – Improve the competence of the staff at Geostat, to ensure production of reliable statistics; Develop overall functioning of Geostat, including management and planning issues; Improve the institutional competence, including policies, documentation and standartization, reputation and image of Geostat in the Georgian society.
Main results – Methodology improved in CPI and PPI calculations, new weighting system based on total National Accounts, development of new software for PPI, introduced new format of the press release for PPI. Implementation of Metadata and new methods in Business Register Improve competence in English language, work on quality management. Training courses in Statistical methods; improvement of sampling for Business Surveys.


Project title – Data collection and analyses project (under USDA Caucasus agricultural development initiative).
Beneficiary – National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat)
Implementing agency – United States Department of Agriculture - National Agricultural Statistics Service
Status – Ongoing
Type of assistance Technical assistance; Equipment.
Main objectives – Improvement of agricultural statistics data collection procedures; Designing and implementing procedures of agricultural surveys; Capacity building of Agricultural and Environmental Statistics Division.
Main results – Data collection procedures are improved; New statistical products are available; Quality of agricultural statistics is improved; Statistics have been released earlier.

Project title – Support the development of the Georgian System of Statistics in the field of regional statistics. Transfer of knowledge required for conducting analysis of regional development as well as regional accounts compilation.
Beneficiary – National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
Implementing agency – Central Statistics Office of Poland.
Status – Ongoing
Period covered – 2014 – 2015.
Type of assistance Technical assistance.
Main objectives – Comprehensive support for Georgian official statistics in the field of regional statistics, including regional accounts and strengthening institutional capacity of the official statistics of Georgia as a partner of public administration in the scope of statistical surveys methodology and methods for statistical data analysis
Main results – 1) transfer of knowledge necessary for compiling and analisys of regional statistical data, including compilation of the regional accounts. 2) the manual on good practises in the area of dissemination of statistical data. 3) recommendations for the development of regional analysis in the statistics in Georgia. 4) the compendium of knowledge on the regional accounts for Georgian statisticians.


Project title – Support for the development of Georgian System of Statistics in the field of environment statistics.
Beneficiary – National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
Implementing agency – Central Statistical Office of Poland.
Status – Ongoing
Period covered 2.1.2015 – 12.31.2015.
Type of assistance Technical assistance.
Main objectives – Comprehensive support for Georgian official statistics in the field of environmental statistics (including environmental economics) and strengthening institutional capacity of the official statistics of Georgia as a partner of public administration in the scope of statistical surveys methodology and methods for statistical data analysis.
Main results –1. Transfer of knowledge and practical capabilities necessary for conducting surveys on environment statistics (including environmental economics); in the frame of the project advisory activities and training activities for Georgian statisticians will be conducted; 2. Transfer of knowledge and practical capabilities necessary for collecting, compiling, transmission and analysis of environmental statistical data (including environmental economics); 3. Exchange of experience, good practice and information on work organization and inter-ministerial cooperation in the field of environmental statistics; 4. Exchange of experience, good practice and information on use of administrative data for statistical purposes; 5. Development and publication of a Manual providing methodological guidelines to be used for producing environmental statistics system; 6. Preparation of Recommendations in respect of conditions and development directions of Georgian environmental statistics.

Project title – Global Research on Child labor Measurement and Policy Development (MAP).
Beneficiary – National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat)), Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia
Implementing agency–International Program on the Elimination of Child Labor (IPEC) within International Labour Organization (ILO).
Period covered – 11.15.2013 – 11.17.2017
Type of assistance Technical assistance and financial support.
Main objectives – 1. Improving information on working children, child labor, and hazardous work in each target country or sector through data collection and in-depth analysis, including prevalence estimates representative at the national or sectoral-level 2. Increasing capacity of national statistical offices in host countries to collect and analyze nationally representative data on working children and child labor, including the worst forms of child labor.
Main results – A National Child Labor Survey (NCLS) implemented and published.


Project title – Georgian Agricultural Policy Initiative.

Status – Ongoing
Period covered – 1.10.2013 – 9.30.2017
Type of assistance Technical assistance.
Main objectives – Improvement of agricultural statistics data collection procedures; Designing and implementing procedures of agricultural surveys; Capacity building of Agricultural and Environmental Statistics Division.
Main results – Data collection procedures are improved; New statistical products are available; Quality of agricultural statistics is improved; Statistics have been released earlier.

 
Project title – European Neighbourhood Programme for Agriculture and Rural Development (ENPARD Georgia).
Beneficiary – Ministry of Agriculture (MoA), National Statistics Office of Georgia (GeoStat).
Implementing agency – FAO
Status – Ongoing
Period covered – 1.03.2013 – 1.03.2016
Type of assistance Technical assistance.
Main objectives – ENPARD, the EUR 52M EU-funded integral programme to support the agriculture sector in Georgia, is contributing significantly to the process of improving agriculture statistics in the country. In the context of ENPARD, the government of Georgia is committed to improve its agriculture statistics according to the standards set in the system of integrated agricultural censuses and surveys defined by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). If, by May 2015, the Government of Georgia has demonstrated such improvements, the EU will release EUR 1 million to Georgia as part as the EU budget support.
Main results – The MoA aims to improve the statistical basis upon which it takes strategic and operational decisions. The programme will support this by helping the MoA and GEOSTAT improve the agricultural statistics in order to ensure that it follows methodologies according to FAO standards. 
The areas that this would cover could include improved sampling, environment/natural resource management indicators and greater participation of all relevant stakeholders. With better statistics, Georgia will be ready to shape better strategies to tackle the sector many problems and to develop further the current efforts to modernize agriculture and tackle rural poverty. 
Technical assistance will also be provided to support the MoA and GEOSTAT in designing and implementing a country-wide agricultural census to be conducted according to FAO standards. The agricultural census will also be designed to collect and tabulate gender-disaggregated data according to the FAO REU proposed core set of gender indicators in agriculture.
