| Simon Gelashvili has been serving as the Head of the Academic Department of Economic and Social Statistics at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University since July of 2006 year. |
| In 1978-1996 years he held various positions (from an economist to a head of Division and an advisor on economics to the Chairman) at the Central Statistical Division of Georgia (State Statistics Committee of Georgia). He was a director of the Scientific-Informational Centre of the State Statistics Department of Georgia in 1999-2001 years; since January of 2000 he has been a professor of the Academic Department of Statistics at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. He was a director of the Scientific-Research Statistics Institute of Georgia in 2001-2005 years; he was a board member of the National Bank of Georgia in 2005-2012 years. Simon Gelashvili has been a board member of the National Statistics Office of Georgia since June of 2018 year. |
| Simon Gelashvili has received higher education at the Faculty of Economics of Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University specializing in statistics, he finished his postgraduate and doctoral studies also at TSU, and at the Finance and Economics Institute of Moscow and Potsdam University (Germany). In 1988 he earned the Degree of Candidate of Sciences in Economics, while in 1999 he was awarded the Degree of Doctor of Sciences in Economics. |
