Date: 3 December 2010
Starting November 29 until December 3 International Experts were visiting Geostat. The visit was aimed at providing consultations to respective staff members of Geostat and elaborating methodology in order to involve Georgia in 2011 International Comparison Program (ICP).
ICP was established in 1968 by the United Nations and the University of Pennsylvania to facilitate inter-country comparisons of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and its components based on PPP (purchasing power parity). Such international organizations as World Bank, International Monetary Fund, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), UN and Euro Stat are permanent users of PPP data. Countries are involved in groups in International Comparison Program.
Previously, Georgia was covered as part of the CIS region, but after the country left commonwealth, it has not taken part in global comparison.
World Bank has always been outlining the importance of Georgia’s participation in ICP, since PPP is one of the most important macroeconomic components and preliminary assessments done by various donors prior to implementing different projects and programs are done using these indicator.
Geostat is implementing the preparatory activities for ICP with financial support from MCG (www.mcg.ge).
