The Executive Director of National Statistics Office of Georgia, Mr. Gogita Todradze participates in the 62nd World Statistics Congress which is held on 18-23 August in Kuala-Lumpur, Malaysia.
The World Statistics Congress, that takes place once every two years in different countries, is attended by the heads and representatives of the national statistical offices and international organizations globally, as well as analysts and representative of scientistific and business circles. 2500 delegates participate in the current Congress hosted by Malaysia.
At the congress, Geostat's Executive Director presented the National Statistical System of Georgia to the audience, shared Georgia's experience and spoke about the role and importance of statistical data, key directions in the development of the country's statistical system and existing challenges. In his speech, he emphasized the importance of intensive international cooperation in terms of developing and further improving the statistical system in the country.
Together with the head of Geostat, representatives and heads of National Statistical Service of Republic of Armenia, UNECE, EFTA and Vienna University of Economics and Business were participated in the panel discussion about the issues related to Official Statistics, moderated by the head of Swiss Federal Statistical Office.
In the framework of the visit, Mr. Gogita Todradze had the meeting with the Head of the Department of Statistics Malaysia, Mr. Mohd Uzir Mahidin, who at the same time is the head of the UNESCAP Committee on Statistics. At the meeting, the heads of the two countries' statistics offices discussed the possible development of the future cooperation between the offices in both the production and dissemination of official statistics, as well as the sharing of experience in introducing new methods and modern technologies.
During the visit, Mr. Gogita Todradze was also invited to a Malaysian TV Channel to discuss the importance of official statistics, the challenges and opportunities.
