The National Statistics Office of Georgia hosted the IMF delegation led by Ms. Mercedes Vera-Martin and the Mr. Selim Cakir, IMF Resident Representative for Georgia.
The purpose of the meeting was to review the current situation in the National Accounts, Price and External Sector Statistics at Geostat, to assess the implementation of new methodologies and standards, as well as to assess the possibilities of introducing modern technologies and to develop future plans.
During the meeting held in Geostat office, special attention was paid to the issues of updating the National Accounts indicators. The Executive Director of Geostat – Mr. Gogita Todradze briefed the IMF representatives on the implementation of the new National Accounting System (SNA 2008). According to him, Geostat staff, together with their Danish counterparts and IMF experts, continue to work intensively in this area. Accordingly, the data of the national accounts assessed under the new methodology will be made public on November 15, 2019.
The issues such as future cooperation between Geostat and the International Monetary Fund and the need for technical assistance in various fields were also discussed during the meeting. According to the head of the agency, working with international experts plays an important role in developing and strengthening the country's statistical system.
