Today, October 20, the International Community celebrates the World Statistics Day. The first World Statistics Day was established on October 20, 2010 by the United Nations General Assembly resolution № 64/267 and is celebrated every 5 years. The World Statistics Day is celebrated with various events by the United Nations Statistics Division (UNSD), UN regional offices and over 200 UN member state national statistics offices.
“Under the global pandemic conditions, it is especially important to celebrate this day. As, during this difficult times, we continue to adapt our statistical systems to the Covid-19 requirements. The strong future of reliable official statistics is based on professional independence, objectivity and public trust. These directions remain important priorities for us” stated Mr. Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of Geostat.
The World Statistics Day gives opportunity to recognize many achievements and core values, reliability and professionalism of official statistics as well as to make plans and tasks for the future. This is a day when we are especially grateful to all the statisticians for their determined work in production and dissemination of reliable and timely statistics, which is an essential tool for making the right decisions and developing effective policies.
