Geostat is working on a new project with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

A grant agreement was signed between the National Statistics Office of Georgia and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Georgia.

The document was signed by Ms. Louisa Vinton, UNDP Resident Representative in Georgia and Mr. Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of Geostat.

"The aim of the project is to strengthen the capacity of the National Statistics System and to fulfill the tasks defined by the Strategy for the Development of the National Statistical System of Georgia (2020-2023) in a timely and quality manner," - said Mr. Gogita Todradze. According to him, "the project intends to adapt Geostat website for people with disabilities, to strengthen information technology systems, to develop the capacity of Geostat staff."

"Today, as never before, health, the viability of the economy and the overcoming the long-term consequences of the pandemic crisis depend on the availability of reliable data. With our support, Geostat will be able to perform its vital activities in a quality manner, respond to national needs in a timely manner, and contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals in Georgia," said Ms. Louisa Vinton, UNDP Resident Representative in Georgia.

The project, funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Government of Sweden, aims to improve the quality, relevance and professionalism of data collection, processing and dissemination by Geostat.

The project consists of 4 components:

The first component will develop an information technology development strategy and a data protection and information security policy document. 

The second component is aimed at improving the dissemination capacity of statistical data.  In the framework of the component Geostat website will be adapted for people with disabilities, ensuring equal access to information for users with disabilities and greater involvement in social activities.

According to the third component, advanced training for Geostat employees will be conducted in statistical and information technology programs.

The fourth component focuses on users of statistical information (government agencies, local governments, media, business associations, the scientific community, etc.) and includes strengthening relationships with users’ groups and campaigning to raise awareness about statistics.

The activities envisaged by the joint project of Geostat and UNDP will be completed in December 2021.
