The third meeting of the Bureau of Committee on Statistics of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) was held online, on April 8, 2021. The session was chaired by Mr. Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of Geostat, and the Chair of the Committee on Statistics.
The purpose of the bureau meeting was the formation and election of the members of the Inter-agency and Expert Group on SDG Indicators (IAEG-SDG) and the High-level Group for Partnership, Coordination and Capacity-Building for statistics for the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (HLG-PCCB) for 2021-2023.
At the meeting, Mr. Gogita Todradze highlighted the significance of statistics in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development implementation as well as the regional importance of IAEG-SDG and HLG-PCCB groups and presented received nominations and recommendations to the members of the bureau.
The meeting was attended by heads of various statistical services and the ESCAP Statistics Division and the bureau members.
It should be mentioned that Mr. Gogita Todradze was elected as the chair of the Bureau of Committee on Statistics of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific for a two-year term on August 26, 2020.
