The next meeting of the Bureau of the Committee on Statistics of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) was held, on January 20, 2022.
The session of the Bureau, held for the first time this year, was chaired by Mr. Gogita Tordradze, Executive Director of Geostat and the Chair of the ESCAP Committee on Statistics.
The provisional agenda and the preliminary work for the 8th Session of the Committee on Statistics, consultations about the 53rd Session of the United Nations Statistical Commission scheduled for March 2022, as well as future plans of the Committee and the Bureau were the main topics of today’s meeting.
Mr. Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of Geostat opened the meeting with the welcome speech and introduced the Director of the ESCAP’s Statistical Division, who was appointed in November 2021.
During the meeting participants also discussed the results of the UN World Data Forum which was held in Bern, Switzerland in October 2021.
The session of the bureau was attended by the secretariat of the ESCAP’s Statistical Division, the members of the bureau, the heads of National Statistics Offices in Asia and the Pacific as well as the representatives of the international organizations.
It should be mentioned that Mr. Gogita Todradze was elected as the Chair of the Bureau of Committee on Statistics of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific for a two-year term in August 2020.
