The next meeting of the Bureau of the Committee on Statistics of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) was held, today on February 17, 2022.
The 7th meeting of the Bureau was held online as the side event of the 53rd Session of the UN Statistical Commission. The Bureau meeting was chaired by Mr. Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of Geostat and the Chair of the ESCAP Committee on Statistics.
The Bureau Session was attended by the ESCAP committee on statistics and the Bureau members, the secretariat of the ESCAP’s Statistical Division, and the heads of National Statistics Offices in Asia and the Pacific as well as the representatives of the international organizations.
Mr. Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of Geostat opened the meeting with the welcome speech and noted that the main goal of the meeting was to share views before the 53rd session of the UN Statistical Commission and to review the regional priority issues as the monitoring of the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, Environmental-economic accounting, climate change statistics, Big data etc.
In addition, the participants of the meeting reviewed the agenda of the upcoming the 8th session of the Committee on Statistics and future plans.
In closing, Executive Director of Geostat thanked the participants and the ESCAP’s Statistics Division secretariat for organizing the meeting and expressed his readiness for future fruitful cooperation
