The National Statistics Office of Georgia presented an interactive portal - "Statistics for Kids and Teenagers" for the students of Rustavi public schools.
Ms. Nino Latsabidze, Mayor of Rustavi, Mr. Kakha Koberidze, Deputy State Representative of Kvemo Kartli, Mr. Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of Geostat and Mr. Ghassan Khalil, UNICEF Representative in Georgia, opened the event and addressed the audience. Students and teachers of various public schools in Rustavi, as well as representatives of local government and self-government attended the presentation.
The interactive portal was developed with the financial and technical support of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), and aims to produce and disseminate statistical data in easily understandable forms for children, as well as to provide them with access to statistical data.
According to Mr. Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of Geostat, “The new portal allows children and teenagers to get useful information about the socio-economic and demographic situation of the country through modern tools of data visualization.”
The portal will significantly help kids and teenagers to deepen their knowledge in statistics, improve their ability to perceive and analyze information correctly, become more aware of children's rights and make evidence-based decisions”, stated Mr. Gogita Todradze.
Today Geostat held a very interesting meeting in Rustavi, with the representatives of the United Nations Children's Fund. We have been introduced a new portal that is directly projected for children, and the information covered by the portal will allow children to make an analysis based on objective and correct information." said Ms. Nino Latsabidze, Mayor of Rustavi.
“I am very glad to launch the web portal with the municipality of Rustavi and with Geostat today. This web portal is very important because it’s very much linked to the rights of the children of Georgia. Through this web portal, the children and young people will be able to understand what their rights are and also, what are the rights that are not fully implemented in the society. So, this is a crucial tool for children and young people to understand the rights, to demand them and to defend them”, stated Mr. Ghassan Khalil, UNICEF Representative in Georgia.
The portal – Statistics for Kids and Teenagers consists of two main sections:
The first section - "Statistics for Kids" - is intended for children aged 8-12. The topics presented in this section are tailored to the relevant target audience, including fun questions from a variety of categories such as: demographics, education, agriculture, etc. The portal also includes interesting facts about the regions of Georgia.
A variety of visualization tools are used to better understand the information, such as infographics, animations, video graphics and interactive diagrams. In the same section, users have the opportunity to see interesting statistical facts, fill in thematic quizzes and get a certificate.
The second section - "Statistics for Teenagers" is intended for young people aged 13 to 19, and provides interesting information about our country and population. Through this section, the user is given the opportunity to solve a cognitive quiz and get acquainted with fun statistical facts.
Within the framework of the event, students of Rustavi schools completed cognitive quizzes and tasks using the portal. At the end of the meeting, they were presented with special certificates and symbolic gifts.
