Today the National Statistics Office of Georgia celebrates 104th anniversary from its foundation.
On 25 July of 1919 year the first Statistics Office of the country was established. Therefore, the aforementioned date is related to the commencement of official statistics maintenance in Georgia.
In May of 1918, following declaration of independence of the Democratic Republic of Georgia, the issue of establishment of statistics office, aimed at compiling social and economic statistical indicators depicting ongoing occurrences in the country, arose.
The next measure, in order to leverage of the statistics agency, was taken on 25 July of 1919 _ after adoption of the Law “on Foundation of Central Statistics Committee” by the founding meeting of Georgia, on the basis of which Central Statistics Committee of the Republic was established, which was authorized to carry out all statistical activities of state importance.
By present condition, GeoStat is an independent legal entity under public law, which executes its activity in compliance with international standards, methodologies and the best practice acclaimed internationally. Its activity is completely based on the fundamental principles for maintenance of official statistics provided for by the United Nations and European Statistics Code of Practice, that ensures high degree of professional impartiality, reliably of recorded data, objectivity, protection of the principles of confidentiality and efficient application of resources.
Today GeoStat, in respect of 104th anniversary, will award successful and highly-qualified employees, outstanding business companies providing information, as well as international and local partner organisations with special certificates.
