Today, the first Steering Committee Meeting of the EU-funded twinning project "Further Strengthening of the Georgian Statistical System" was held at the National Statistical Office of Georgia. The twinning project in Geostat started in April of this year and it is implemented by the statistical offices of Finland, Germany and Italy.
The meeting was attended by the members of the Steering Committee, Geostat management, representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to Georgia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Statistical Offices of Finland and Germany.
At the meeting, the committee members approved the initial action plan and budget of the new twinning project. They discussed current challenges and future plans.
At the session, the Executive Director of Geostat addressed the participants of the meeting with a welcoming speech and expressed his readiness for future cooperation.
The implementation of the twinning project in Geostat was started in April 2024 and will continue for 2 years. The project aims to strengthen the statistics system in the country, to produce timely, internationally comparable, reliable data and to ensure its alignment with European standards. Cooperation includes three main components: Enhancing the Methodological Soundness in Standards and Classification in Line with the EU requirements, Development of Demographic and Population statistics and Strengthening the Capacity of Government Institutions for the Production and Use of Official Statistics.
