The 105th anniversary of Geostat and the 25 years of Collecting the Gender Statistics are celebrated in Tbilisi

The Regional Conference dedicated to the 105th Anniversary of the National Statistical Office of Georgia (Geostat) and the 25th Anniversary of Collecting Gender Statistics, - “Accelerating Progress Towards Inclusive Development Through Gender Statistics," is being held in Tbilisi. The conference is organized by Geostat and UN Women and will last for two days.

 

Mr. Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of Geostat, and Mr. Belen Sanz Luque, Regional Director, UN Women for Europe and Central Asia, addressed the participants of the conference with welcome speeches. As stated, Mr. Todradze "The regional conference is held to celebrate the anniversary of the National Statistics Office of Georgia. Heads of statistical offices from approximately ten countries around the word participate in the event. I would like to congratulate all statisticians on this day and thank them for their fruitful cooperation."

 

As stated, Mr. Papa Seck, Chief of the Research and Data section of UN Women "It is really an honor to be here today, to celebrate Geostat but also celebrate the long standing partnership that we have with them working on gender data and statistics. Over the last five to six years we have done a lot of work with Geostat and I really appreciate the strong partnership and also leadership that we have seen in terms of improving it. We’ve seen data on Gender statistics improve in just few years, just because of this work. Recently we have done a Time Use Survey and we’ve seen that the time use survey is already having an impact in Georgia. It a really pleasure to be here and we look forward for the conference but also to strengthen our partnership going forward. "

 

Heads of statistical offices of the EU member states, candidate, Eastern Partnership (EaP), Central Asian countries, and high-level representatives of international organizations are participating in the regional conference. The event is also attended by representatives from Georgian government agencies, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), academic circles, and international organizations in Georgia.

 

During the seven thematic sessions, conference participants will discuss various topics, including gender data management for effective decision-making, time use surveys, measuring the gender pay gap, results from surveys on violence against women and girls, the gender equality index, improving gender data and other significant topics.
