On July 30, Mr. Gogita Todradze, Executive Director of the National Statistics Office of Georgia, participated in a panel discussion organized by the Statistics Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP).
The discussion was held online and focused on the structure of the ESCAP Committee on Statistics, addressing the challenges in the field of official statistics and adapting them to users' needs.
The Executive Director of Geostat, on behalf of the National Statistics Office of Georgia, expressed his support to the review of the structure of the Committee and noted that the proposed changes are significant for increasing the efficiency of the Committee and working groups, and for focusing on the needs of the statistical community in the Asia-Pacific region.
Mr. Gogita Todradze also highlighted the role of changes and innovations in official statistics to strengthening statistical systems and to be fit for purpose. On behalf of Geostat, he expressed readiness for further collaboration.
Along with the Executive Director of Geostat, the Director of the Statistics Division of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific, the Chief Statistician of the Department of Statistics of Singapore, the Deputy Chief Methodologist of Statistics New Zealand, as well as the heads of the statistics offices of the UN member states and international organizations took part in discussions.
