On March 25, the first meeting of the Inter-Agency Coordination Council of the National System of Official Statistics was held. The meeting was opened by Mr.Gogita Todradze, the Executive Director of the National Statistics Office of Georgia and at the same time, Chairperson of the Council. In March of this year, the Government of Georgia issued the decree establishing an Inter-Agency Council, with the aim of improving the statistical system. In addition the council coordinates the working groups, responsible for producing statistics.
At the meeting, the Chairperson of the Inter-Agency Coordination Council, Mr. Gogita Todradze, reviewed the Council's charter and presented to the Council members the technical tasks of the Inter-Agency Coordination Working Groups of the National System of Official Statistics. The aim is to improve the production of statistical information and ensure data quality.
The meeting was attended by representatives of various Georgian government agencies at the level of deputy ministers. At the session, the council members voted and approved two important working groups, which were established to study Gender Statistics issues and statistics related to the EU integration process.
The aim of the Working Group on Statistics, related to the EU integration process is to produce statistics related to the European Union integration process. Among other things, the Group will develop methodological approaches and a common quality standard, which will include improving the quality of relevant administrative data and creating new indicators.
The aim of the Gender Statistics Working Group is to strengthen the direction of gender statistics. The group will also contribute, improving the coordination of the national statistical system and the quality of relevant administrative data, also developing new indicators.
At the end of the meeting, Mr. Gogita Todradze Executive Director of Geostat thanked the council members for their active participation in the meeting. The council members expressed their readiness to actively work towards the standardization and transparency of the Georgian statistical system.
