The first regional workshop on the 6th round of Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS

The international seminar, organized by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), which was dedicated to preparatory work of conducting Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey, was opened in Tbilisi. Ms. Maia Tskitishvili, Head of the Government Administration of Georgia and Ms. Meri Daushvili, Executive Director of Geostat, together with foreign experts opened the event. The executive Director of Geostat outlined the importance of conducting Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS).
According to her, conducting MICS is a great opportunity for the countries to get various social-demographic indicators, that reflect the healthcare of women and children, education, environment (including the data on water and sanitary), child protection, reproductive health and etc., through collecting high quality and internationally comparable data.
The 6th round of MISC covers indicators based on household survey, the biggest part of which is in line with one of the most important initiative shared by the countries – Sustainable Development Goals. As a result of survey, the necessary indicators for assessing the implementation of national and international obligations were developed, that are significant for monitoring the situation of children and women in our countries.
The last MICS was held in 2005 in Georgia.
The event was attended as by foreign experts, as well as by the representatives of 19 countries, mostly from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and Eastern and Central European states. The seminar has started today in hotel Courtyard Marriot and will last till 8 February.
